Matre emerged onto the L.A. hip-hop scene a decade ago with Jericho J, LifeRexall, and Doc Lewd to form the dynamic group, THE LEAGUE, dropping the classic albums, "Mirror Heroes" and "Track Team." He's since become a member of the Collectives, LA2TheBay and Universal 1, and has been featured on countless guest appearances with prominent underground heavyweights such as The ShapeShifters, 2Mex and Subtitle, among others. Matre's described as having the stylistic versatility of Freestyle Fellowship and Jurassic 5, the hip-hop awareness of Dilated Peoples and the political consciousness of KRS-ONE and Mos Def. These comparisons however, fail to adequately describe a sound that is uniquely his own, both in studio and on stage. Matre now releases the anticipated solo debut, STRUGGLE MUSIC. The album ranges in content from poignant social commentary & abstract musings on self and spirit, to hip-hop anthems & musical exploration, with its backbone set firmly in party-rocking rhymes and raw skills. With STRUGGLE MUSIC, Matre sets out to influence each listener, then duplicate that internationally-pushing and supporting our sense of self, community, purpose and social change.
