Beam combines elements of Hip Hop, Rap, live drum and bass, Trip Hop, Ambient, and groove jazz to form deep urban textures and soundscapes improvised on the spot each night. The band is comprised of drummer David Throckmorton (Maynard Ferguson, Diane Schuur), Paul Thompson (Stanley Turrentine), Steve Landay (Rusted Root's Jenn Wertz, Push), DJ Supa C, and Akil Esoon. Formed in 1999, Beam pushes the boundaries of rap and traditional improvised jazz fusion to create soundscapes and textural grooves that are like no other band you've ever heard.
