The Myles Family "The Christian World will never be the same again"; was the public sentiment in the summer of 1986, when The Myles Family began singing gospel music the traditional way.The Myles Family originally from Lyon, Mississippi, but now resides in Kosciusko, Mississippi has graced the stage in many areas of the world in churches, concert halls, festivals, schools, recreation halls, parks, and auditoriums. The group was born in a church located by the levee, in the Mississippi Delta, about 5 miles north of Friars Point, Mississippi where they sang in the Silver Cloud Church Choir. The Myles Family, inclusive of Father, Rev. Marvin K. Myles, who is a Pastor in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Business Manager, Lead and Background singer for the group, Mother, Olivia Myles, homemaker, personal and sales manager, for the group; daughters, LaShondra Renae, and Samantha Ivy, lead and background singers, sons Keith Martez, Marvin K. II, and Melvin Kendall who all are background singers, and Stephen Simmons, keyboard. With three recordings to their credit, "Why I Sing," "On God's Word," and "MyleStone," the group has been accepted by the Mississippi Arts Commission in Jackson, Mississippi as part of the Artist Roster, for the past three years. The group represented the Mississippi Delta during the Smithsonian American Folklife Festival in 1997. Additionally, performed in Nottoden, Norway for the Gospel Festival in 1998, and was invited to represent the state of Mississippi on the Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center, Washington D.C., 1999. The group performs each year for the Sunflower River Gospel Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi. They also sang at the Mississippi State Capitol for the Mississippi Arts Commission's Birthday, 1999, and performed for the Neshoba County Schools in Philadelphia, Mississippi, for Black History Month, 1999. The Myles Family, a very versatile group, has performed to a variety of audiences and has been accepted well. Although Traditional Gospel is the overwhelming style, audiences are also blessed with Hymns, A'Cappella, Contemporary, and Southern Gospel Music. Performances are so constructed, that each person in attendance, regardless of race, creed, or color, will hear a song of interest. Most of all the songs performed by The Myles Family are written or arranged by, Rev. Myles, Olivia, or Marvin II, all of whom are members of BMI. The Group records on the Voyage Record Lable.
