The members of True North, Charlotte Formichella and Lynn Scharf began writing together in June of 2004. They both brought a significant fan base to their project and were prompted to record a first album (The Trouble With Distance) in January of 2005.
True North's music is based on Charlotte's clear and precise guitar work, as well as Lynn's rich and diverse vocal technique. Charlotte's previous experience includes winning collegiate songwriting contests, playing with regional artists like Eric Leifert (Bossalingo, Oxymorons) and Abby Aronson (Abby and Norm Group), as well as studying at the Berklee College of Music. Lynn also comes from a formal music background, beginning with almost a decade of operatic training and performance, followed by her first solo acoustic album, Between Now and Winter. Lynn has also recorded with some of the Washington, D.C. region's best musicians, including Ira Gitlin (American National banjo champion), Michael Harris (Bang, Bang, Bang, Bossalingo, L-Maestro Presents), Eli Staples (Steve Jenkins and the Mad Science Trio), and Jen Quan (The Julliard School, Elton John).
Both Charlotte and Lynn are varsity college soccer players, as well as wholehearted outdoor adventurers and environmental science geeks. They like to write songs late at night and drink lots of caffeine free organic herbal teas.
