'Far' is the breath-taking Mini-Album from Danish singer/songwriter Tina Dico. Tina recently registered in the national consciousness by collaborating with Zero 7 on their Top 'When It Fall's'. Her mesmerising voice has captivated the critics and audiences alike. 'Far' is chilled but also up-tempo. Tina's voice is caressing, velvety, mellow and uplifting throughout. Tina plays guitar, accompanying her voice on each track, lending a personal home-grown feel to each song. 'Far' is introspective and thought provoking album which will take you on a roller coaster of emotions. If you were missing a certain someone, tracks like 'Back Where We Started' would be sure to bring him or her back to the forefront of your mind. Color this gorgeous." Born in Arhus, Denmark, Tina, a dizzyingly statuesque six-foot blond amazingly describes herself as having been a bit of a tomboy as a child. "I played football," she says, "though I did have ballet lessons. My love of music came from my father, who was a bit of a Hi-Fi anorak; we had a music room in the basement, which had state of the art audio equipment and a piano. We had a huge record collection, mostly Sixties stuff like The Beatles and Pink Floyd, my favourite was Donovan who I would still cite as an influence." "I had piano lessons from the age of eight and then guitar lessons at twelve. I started writing when I was ten. I used to sit at the piano and wrote verse after verse as a sort of diary. It was fairly monotone stuff, just two chords. I never played it to anyone else, I was very shy about it and didn't think it would ever come to anything." After High School, Tina went to University to study Religion. "I became very frustrated with it," she says. "It's such a big subject and the teachers were so rigid in their approach. I started writing lyrics again because I couldn't concentrate." After a couple of years I applied to the Danish Royal College of Music in Arhus and was accepted. I studied singing and piano and had guitar lessons. I started to open up and put a band together, our first two gigs were talent competitions and we won them both." One of the competitions prizes was a record release; the resulting "Your Waste Of Time" was a hit and the band gigged constantly. The major labels were showing interest, but Tina decided to record and release an album herself, which duly appeared in April 2001 to a rapturous critical reception. Tina, however, was beginning to find "the warm safe atmosphere" in Denmark a little claustrophobic and decided to move to London in the June. Tina had met her manager Jonathan Morley in Denmark and he quickly arranged solo acoustic gigs. Within months, she signed a publishing deal with Kojam Music. The next few months were spent writing with various partners. Jonathan sent some of Tina's material to Zero 7, whose first album had impressed her. Working with Zero 7 would have definitely added some prestige to Tina's own work. They expressed interest, but were busy touring and promoting their record. In the meantime, Tina co-incidentally ended up working with Henry Binns on a writing project. Impressed by his meeting with Tina, when the time came to record a new Zero 7 album, Henry asked Tina to collaborate on the new album. The results were two outstanding tracks, /Home' and 'The Space Between' with Tina's warm, mellow and soulful vocals blending perfectly with the duo's warm sound. The collaboration continues when she goes on the road with the band this Spring. In January, Tina was voted Best Composer at the Danish Music Critics Awards. And in February, Tina picked a Grammy at the Danish Music Awards winning the highly coveted Best Songwriter category. Meanwhile she has been working recording a mini-album for release in the UK in May. The self-confessed control freak intends to release the record herself - "it's got to feel right" she says.
