(NOTE: Charity's other musical project these days is a her family music band, Charity and the JAMband. Check out www.jamjamjam.com, cdbaby.com/jamband, and cdbaby.com/jamband2 for more info on that stuff.) A classically-trained pianist and flutist raised by two piano teachers in small-town Wisconsin, Charity moved to the Left Coast in search of balance in the late 80's. She immersed herself in the worlds of folk, rock, and bluegrass, and began writing music. She played and sang in Berkeley- and San Francisco-based bands Buffalo Roam, Night of the Iguana, and A Rare Thing, but eventually stepped out on her own to create a fitting vehicle for her music. Firstborn captures a subset of songs composed over the last decade, including two instrumentals. Charity's voice is simultaneously angelic and haunting, and her piano playing is both emotional and technical. The songs explore the existential, the mystical, and the real in raw and mesmerizing poetry. Charity's experience as a mathematician, an extreme rock climber, a mother, and an author (Math and Music: Harmonious Connections [www.musimatics.com]; Builder.com's SuperScripter) inform her songwriting and her music.
