In 1999 an amazing thing happened to me: I made my first record. As Ani DiFranco once said, "People used to make records, as in a record of an event, the event of people playing music in a room." We tried to capture such an event during that hot, humid, Evansville summer when Jeff Ennis, Brian Mullins, Matt Wilson and I recorded the basic tracks for Evansville. The result is an eight-song reflection on my time spent in a quirky, Midwestern river town, and the joy and heartache of discovering that finding your own voice often means hitting the road. The tracks I am most proud of are "Evansville" and "Mother Rule", but people often tell me that "Sister" and "Break My Heart" are their favorites.
