www.borayoon.com Bora Yoon is a 23 year old Asian American singer/songwriter who picked up music by ear at age four on the piano, and went on to be classically trained on the piano, violin, and voice. Writing her first song at 16 on the piano, and inspired by Difranco, she picked up the guitar, recognizing the truth found in Tori Amos' lyric: "...you go too far when pianos try to be guitars..." Channelling two different idioms of instrument accompaniment, Bora has written a number of songs, 10 of which are on her debut self-titled solo album released in November of 1999, ranging from acoustic folk guitar, to piano, spoken word, trance, and an original all-women's choral composition. With her 2nd solo album "Proscenium" (see left) just released, she has been booked and double billed in Chicago, Boston, and Ithaca, as well as abroad in London and Berlin. Fiercely independent, she strives to be an anomaly, transcending known categories by constantly evolving her music in realms of electronica, jazz, and neo-classicism, while keeping her roots in intelligent folk music and classical training. Wherever she decides to show face~ always, keeping it real, keeping a grip, with honest words of Faith (not Hope) beyond gender roles, ageist think, 'love' or the ponderings thereof, and her brain droppings along the way that find their way into the shape of a song. "You may not be responsible for getting knocked down, but you're certainly responsible for getting back up."--Jesse Jackson ************************************************************** HONORS & AWARDS: Winner of the 2002 International John Lennon Songwriting Contest Winner of the 11th annual Billboard Songwriting Contest (Jazz Division) DISCOGRAPHY: "Proscenium"- NEW RELEASE!
