Under The Rose united for the first time in October 1987 in a tiny practice hall in Forestville, Connecticut. Their primary ambition at the time was to perform one concert at the University of Connecticut in West Hartford. As luck would have it, one thing led to another and low and behold it's now twelve years later and they're still plugging away. Who'd have thought it would last as long as it has. Through the years UTR has permformed 100's of shows at many diverse venues, recorded multiple Demo's and Albums in a multitude of studios, and seized many other large scale opportunities along the way in an effort to further their musical career. Some of these opportunities included acceptance on a number of CD compilations, the ability to record in large scale studios on spec time, performing on a nationwide radio show with ESPN, major label interest on a number of separate occasions, music lawyers who would fly 3000+ miles just to see the band perform, just to name a few. With all that it would seem that UTR has done just about everything there is to do short of actually signing with a major record label. But if you were to ask any UTR member the illustrious question, "How did you guys manage to stay together for so long?" you wouldn't hear any mention of the accomplishments listed above. Instead you'd hear about the friendships they've fostered that helped to create a bond which immeasurably stretches far beyond the music they've produced. Without that bond, the music would lack genuineness and therefore would be nothing. As Under The Rose continues into the 21st century one thing is certain, they will continue to strive for bigger and better things, but never at the expense of their friendship or their music.
