Old Paint's been referred to as the most benevolent conspiracy of youth and old age ever to grace the Connecticut music scene. 70-something Gil Dube and 40-something Dave Downs tell musical tales of America past and present, of cowboys and hobos, of miners and lovers, of tall green grass and war-torn terrains. Employing little more than acoustic guitars, harmonicas and lush vocal harmonies, Gil and Dave give the same 'cool cowboy' treatment to their original material as they do to their covers and their public domain songs, creating a musical landscape that is very listenable and very haunting. Gil's original compositions, like 'Wild Grass,' 'October' and 'Little Boy Blue,' have been covered and recorded by several local artists, and a recently updated version of Dave's song, 'Somewhere,' is currently a finalist in VH-1's 2006 Song of the Year Contest. Their two self-produced, independently released albums, 'Hobo Heart' and 'October Song,' are now the only way to hear this very unique duo, as they no longer give live performances.
