Al Duvall is your tour guide down Memory Lane, who swerves off the road into the dark hollers and marshes where the true America is hidden. Moonshiners, criminals, loners and even more shadowy figures emerge and head on up to the barn dance. I play for them on banjo, kazoo, guitar, musical saw, and a collection of spittoons, frying pans and medicine bottles. The music they like to hear is a mix of old-timey, ragtime, sea shanty, Victorian parlor and jug band.
Recorded on wax cylinders and other lo-fi devices, these songs were meant to be written between 1900 and 1930; I just never got around to it then.
I live in Brooklyn and play in New York City and elsewhere.
My lyrics have called by some "hilarious" and "witty".
Enjoy!
