In 2002, three strongly opinionated college instructors in Kansas swallowed their egos and came together to form one musical group. The band took its name because of the three members' penchant for playing multiple instruments. On any given song, even performed live, you will hear five or more instruments. With three musicians doing the work of five musicians, 5-Man Trio seemed like a logical name. Besides their multiple musical instrument disorder, 5-Man Trio has a unique blend of backgrounds and influences to go with a healthy sense of satirical humor. The group's latest CD, Roam with the Buffalo, features a mix of rock, blues and folk played primarily on acoustic instruments. Here are quick bios of the men behind the music: Percussionist CHRIS MAYER is from Scotland but now lives in Wichita, Kansas. Dave and Gary write the songs, but it's Chris who gives the group its unique sound with his blend of African, South American and Asian rhythms. In keeping with the band's eclectic theme, he has also been heavily influenced by the Sex Pistols. Songwriter GARY GACKSTATTER plays acoustic guitar, fretless bass, mandolin and flugelhorn. Besides playing in 5 Man Trio, Gary is also an award-winning symphony conductor and jazz band director. Songwriter DAVE BOSTWICK plays acoustic guitar, bass and harmonica. Though a product of the disco era, Dave once put a "Disco Sucks" bumper sticker on his guitar case. However, he recently taught his daughter to play "Boogie Oogie Oogie" on bass and has considered purchasing bell bottom pants. Combining his disco and blues roots, one of the featured tracks on the album is titled "Disco Mojo." Check out the artist's website: http://www.5mantrio.net Track List: 1. Throwing Stones 2.
