ROOTS - Uwe Steinmetz, Saxophonist and composer from Berlin, Germany, and Pauline Warjri, Pianist and composer from Shillong/India met on the music faculty of the Kodaikanal International School in Tamil Nadu/South India in 1999. Together they prepared concerts performed in schools, churches, cultural centers and private homes all over Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya. As they explored the roots of their individual musical training together, they improvised on well known songs, folk music, hymns and originals. From this joint exploration they offer a new soundscape between folk and jazz, the past and the present. This music was recorded live in Berlin during their first concert tour in Germany the summer of 2001.
