Michael James is not just another singer/songwriter who sounds like Dave Matthews, John Mayer, or Jeff Buckley. While he does find inspiration from these artists, James' music remains undeniably original simply because he isn't trying to imitate any of them. "Too often" Michael says, "new artists model themselves after music's true innovators. By doing so, they ultimately lose some credibility and the potential to do anything original themselves." Michael James writes hopeful yet honest lyrics that have a uniquely darker quality than other popular artists in his genre. His songs are built with intricate, yet catchy melodies that are layered upon textured acoustic guitars. Think Howie Day crossed with the moody flavors of Damien Rice and Duncan Sheik. However, Michael James' music is best described in one word: heartfelt. His passion never fails to captivate and pull an audience into his world. In a time when most popular music is watered down and artificial, James delivers soulful songs that are not only refreshing, but also as genuine as you can get.
Until recently, Michael James was the front-man of a band signed to a Denver indie label. In their prime, they were playing 15 shows a month in the Denver/Boulder area and building a strong fan base, while recording a full-length album. However, after a long run together, the band decided to part ways giving Michael the opportunity to continue on as a solo act.
In recent months, James has been playing shows all over the Denver area and building up his fan base. In addition, James is launching a promotional campaign to spread the word about his music. In 2004, Michael released his debut solo EP 'Loft Sessions.' It quickly generated buzz both locally and nationally. James' song "Lost in You" spent several months in heavy rotation on the East Coast College radio circuit while numerous other tracks from 'Loft Sessions' saw air-time on Denver and other Colorado radio stations. Michael is currently finishing up work on the follow up to 'Loft Sessions' due out in summer of 2005. He is also taking his show on the road booking performances at colleges and universities around the country. Be sure to visit www.MichaelJamesMusic.com for all the latest news and events!
