In the August 2005 issue of David Atlanta, Melineh says, "My music, it's about connection - it's about reflecting on who you are and what you're doing with you're life and if you're remaining true to who you are." Those words capture the motivation behind Kurdian's music... here's her story: She's an Armenian girl born and raised in Kansas who couldn't play with the neighbors' kids until she'd practiced the piano. So, she picked up her Mom's classical guitar, saved money for a steel-string and packed her bags after college to make music in New York City. Now Melineh has her debut album, "From where you are," under her funky folk-rock belt. It's a ten-song testament to love, perserverance, desire and redemption, produced by Tony Conniff in New York, New York. Melineh's well-crafted melodies support every honest word she sings, from the quiet hushes to the gushing hooks. The album just makes sense as a whole. You're transported from a love song like "As Good As You," with it's chunky guitars, padded organ and tight harmonies, to a vulnerable and pensive tune, "World," with only Melineh's voice and guitar to guide you through her truth. She rocks. She swings. She makes you laugh with her crazy banter, then focus intently on a solemn song. The New York Times calls her music "soulful and amusing," and it is just that. Her easy stage presence makes audiences feel comfortable enough to laugh with her stories, and be moved by her intimate lyrics and her sweet, strong voice. Melineh has toured successfully in Sweden in 2002 and 2004, in large and small venues. This performing SESAC artist played regularly with her band in New York City at clubs like the Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, CBGB's Gallery, and Pianos. She has recently relocated to Los Angeles and plays both the Hotel Café, Genghis Cohen and the Temple Bar. Quoted in a GO NYC Magazine August 2004 article, "12 Out Artists on the Rise," Melineh says: "Rejection's a scary thing, but I'm not going to let my fear of it stop me from expressing myself truthfully through my music."
