jp hyland grew up listening to what is now considered classic rock before he started to get into more experimental styles in college. Artists like Keller Williams, Nick Drake, and Michael Hedges gave him a whole different perspective on songwriting. He found a lot more was possible besides simply strumming on the guitar. jp is a Washington, DC native and continues to be based out of DC. Other Side of the Mirror is jp's first professional studio effort. The album was recorded over the first half of 2005 at Cue Studios in Falls Church, Virginia. OSM is music written entirely by jp, and performed by jp and Tom White. jp has another CD "More Songs About Death and Mispronunciation" which he recorded in 2003 but was not mass produced, although it is available by email request or at shows. jp blends elements of Folk, Funk, New Age, Bluegrass, and Jam. He strives to test the limits of his instrument and write inventively. But his style is complemented by a fondness for more traditional songwriting that takes from many genres and seems to derive from an older voice. His lyrics are insightful and meaningful in the folk/blues traditions. Check out the artist's website: http://www.jphyland.com Track List: 1. Otherside of the Mirror 2. Jar Behind the Glass 3.
