A few years ago I decided to just throw it all against the wall and hope that whatever stuck there would slide down slow enough to be given a listen to by whoever happened by. Born and raised in Texas, my earliest musical influences were Czech polkas and waltzes and early classic country-western...but I developed an appreciation of most genres and rhythms...though I'm not too enthusiastic about heavy metal, hip-hop, and rap! After years of being a closet singer/songwriter for fear of being rejected, of trying to sponge my way into local country bands, and a feeble attempt to form one, I decided to do it all on my own. Aging into my senior discount years, flush with retired time, caring less what others thought, armed with a passable musical ear and vocal cords that seemed to cure with time, a little folk rhythm guitar ability, an amazing son who suddenly played guitar, bass, drums, sang and composed songs, two other sons and a wife who offered support and critiques.....I thought-what the hell! At least there would be a record after I'm gone! My first attempt, "Eclectic Country Folk", completed in 2001, had many sonic mistakes. This effort, "More Very Eclectic Country Folk", four years in the making, has fewer mistakes, and is more diverse and eclectic, with jazz, rumba, Czech waltz and polka, rockin' boogie, flamenco, folk and country western styles. These multiple styles made it very difficult to describe this release in one sentence and to choose the one free download track. Through years of attending and performing at country "Oprys", open mikes, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, funerals, and karaoke parties, I have met many singers/songwriters/musicians, and sixteen graciously contributed their time and talent to this work. Thanks to an easily portable 8-track Roland digital recorder, most have never met the others! Most of this was recorded in my den/family room, but several tracks were recorded elsewhere on the road - Jeremy Garcia's flamenco tracks on "San Antonio deValero" were recorded in his office at San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. And so - I hope many of you will find one or two of the tracks worth a listen...somewhere between the first track of cool jazz "Time To Change The Bulb" to a rock version of Jimmie Rodgers circa 1927 "Blue Yodel #3" to the final track tracing the life (birth to death) of a soldier in Iraq "Scarlet Sand"...somewhere there is something for everyone.
