The Music Frozen Fish, fiddle and guitar duo from Antwerp (Belgium) plays together for about 10 years, in which the music evolved from rather experimental towards more folky & bluesy stuff. Most of the Frozen Fish music originated during the many busking sessions in Belgium, England and Ireland: Frozen Fish travelled a lot and played along with many musicians with very different styles. The current music has been described as 'hunting accoustic bluesy american folky songs and tunes with a celtic edge', or can generally be classified as 'eclectic', combining Eastern European folk and klezmer with bluegrass and Irish folk, often with bluesy vocals and harmonica. Most songs are written arranged by Frozen Fish, and played up-tempo in an energetic and often 'wild' way. During the years Frozen Fish has performed live on a variety of locations: on festivals, in pubs, on wedding parties, funeral receptions and official inaugurations as well as in a lot of jam sessions. The story The first musical experiments from the fish with guitar, violin and at that time bass, started in april 1994. This results in the song "I don't wanna eat frozen fish", a reaction against fish being served in semi-frozen condition. This song dies in silence but the name Frozen Fish stays and becomes the name of the band. In february 1995 Frozen Fish starts playing gigs arround Antwerp. Demo-recordings were released in 1996 & 1998. The duo continues travelling, especially to Ireland, where a lot of excellent musicians were met, resulting in a great number of sessions. 6-pack The first Frozen Fish mini-cd '6-pack', released in Antwerp in April 2004, combines the music of Frozen Fish with the musical ideas of a number of guest musicians from Sligo (Ireland). The fish-tracks were recorded in 2003 by Frozen Fish guitarist Rob Segers and fiddler Kris Laukens in Kris' homestudio in Antwerp. Guest musicians were recorded in the 'Spiral Studios' in Sligo. Their very subtile additions gave '6-pack' a unique colour. Back in Belgium, the recordings were further mixed and mastered. The songs on 6-pack are not written in function of the recording. The ideas, lyrics and melodies originated throughout the many jamsessions in Belgium and abroad. Since for '6-pack' the live-experience and space for improvisation was very important, a choice was made for direct live recordings. This gives '6-pack' a natural but unpolished feel.
