DARRINGTON BIO

Ever driven across country on Highway 50 and I-70? It's a barren, beautiful road trip, especially in the early Spring. For me, driving through that desolation requires healthy doses of Wilco, Sarah Harmer, Elvis Costello, Pete Yorn, The Cure, Richard Buckner and absolutely anything by Van Morrison.

Our goal is to write songs that would actually fit in on the road trip mix tape of our dreams. Because these days, for better or worse, a lot of music appreciation takes place in the car. I think that's why these songs sound best when, as Seinfeld said, "You're outside, you're inside, you're moving and you're sitting still... all at the same time."

To help bring the songs to life, I enlisted the help of some of my talented friends. Although Darrington is new configuration of those friends, we've each been performing around the Bay Area for the past ten years or so. Most recently, our cellist Laura Loescher, guitarist Paul Boutin and I were in a band called The Scattering Blue, which also featured vocalist Alyn Kelley of Mary Schmary and drummer Patrick McGavock of Mama Luke.

After releasing a CD titled "Divisadero" in the summer of 2000, the band played gigs at venues around the Bay Area including the Sweetwater in Mill Valley. In early 2001, the Scattering Blue disbanded to focus on other projects.

After a year of hibernating and working on new songs, I called some of my friends to see if they had any interest in reuniting for a new project. This time around, we asked Sage Cohen, former singer with the Been Weevils, to join the group as a percussionist and vocalist. In the months that followed they got together at Grizzly Studios in Petaluma with Sonoma's most notorious son, engineer/producer Roger Tschann, and at Jerry Harrison's studio in Sausalito with engineer/producer, Matt Cohen, a long-time member of Marin-based Ska Punk outfit, Jimmy Two Times.

Thanks for listening!
