NEXT LA SHOW MONDAY APRIL 17 HOTEL CAFE 8 pm sharp 1623 1/2 Cahuenga Blvd. Hollywood Come early for drinks and hanging. Full band show. ****************************************** "The Like an Engine Cd is a masterpiece. A seamless collection of haunting melodies and angelic vocals seasoned with spicey lyrics. The songs convey a sense of musical grandeur honed to perfection with a razor-sharp edginess. With the word-pictures so vividly portrayed throughout, one can easily imagine viewing the tales of these tunes through a film director's editing machine. The tight focus brings into view a sweeping silver-screen epic." Jim Guyette WRUW-FM/91.1 Cleveland Spicer moved to Los Angeles with the intention of becoming a film director. Although the visual medium inspired her, she craved a more independent way to express herself, and disappeared after an Oscar nomination to try songwriting. She now creates music that has been called cinematic by the critics, and has won her both fans and awards (National Academy of Songwriters). Like an Engine is Spicer's self-produced debut album, and is an eclectic, powerful mix of sensual, husky phrases, the production is sparse, with an edge not too far away. (Spicer's sophmore release, SEAMLESS, is continuing with raves and accolades--especially after the recent tour in Germany with David Knopfler, fall 2004) "Stunning Music. Ever hear one of those voices that cause you to stop and say, WHO'S THAT? I heard Leonard Cohen in her music." --Applause Magazine "She is a pianist and poetic, sensual- often erotic- lyricist." -- About.com "In the wistful tradition of Rickie Lee Jones, Singer-Songwriter amilia can seduce your eardrums in thirty seconds max." -- Listen.com Her performances can currently be heard on HBO and Showtime. Four songs from her debut, Like an Engine, are featured in movies, one with Dead Can Dance. She composed, performed two songs for Roger Corman's Macon County Jail. (Like an Engine, Shine Like You, Come Over Me, Million Years). Spicer is a Mainstage Performer at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and was selected to Judge the 1999 New Folk Competition. Currently finishing her second album, she is touring in between recording sessions. Please see her website for up-to-date schedule.
