It starts with Marty Kraig's classic rock guitar riff in "Time and Again". It ends with Kristi Paddock's gentle bowed psaltery - fading into birdsong - in "Adam". From blue-collar songs ("Means to an End", "Hands of a Workin' Man") through Celtic creations ("Children of Light") to a rhythmic dulcimer song about an autistic young man ("Johnny"), "The Best of - Volume One" will take you through the multifaceted gem known as abacusmusic.net. Doug Bowen started singing solos in church when he was 11, and he's been creating music ever since. Twenty of the songs on this CD started with Doug's lyrics, acoustic guitar, and lead vocals. Some of the songs have remained unplugged, such as "My Oldest Friend" and "Big Surprise"; the rest have been enhanced by other talented musicians. Connie Rushlin adds her melodic vocals to the inspirational "Hymn" and the poignant "Last Song". The laid-back rocker "Lonely Rider" features Jonathan Walsh on lead guitar. "Kali" - a beautiful musical portrait of Mother Nature - features Mike Garrett on mandolin in a duet with the psaltery. Kristi's digital keyboard, vocals, and songwriting appear at both ends of the spectrum in the country song "Take the Long Road" and the R&B song "Forcing the Issue". Vince Broncaccio provides the percussion for the CD, highlighted when teamed up with Doug's Eastern Indian-sounding dulcimer on "World of Lost Souls". We hope you enjoy this CD. Listen to the lyrics.
