Whiskey Tenor formed in 2001 as a recording project, a vehicle for singer/songwriter Kevin Brace to document and share his lulling, moody songs with his friends. Soon after the group's formation, their atiic recordings proved to be a cause for further pursuit of Brace's music, resulting in a few rare performances and a loyal Detroit-area following. The group became known for opting to book and play their own concerts, avoiding multi-band bills which allowed them to control the atmosphere and play long into the night. Witnessing the Tenor, either live or on record, evokes a sense of things now passed, a time when a man's tales of the romatic and tragic were told through beer soaked lyrics, performed in taverns and on bandstands before the advent of recording equipment. Yet, for all the Tenor's implied nostalgia there is something unique and caustic that gives them an important place in the no frills songwriting forum created by artists like Will Oldham and Damien Jurado. Whisket Tenor's debut EP, "A Day's Work," was recorded in a single night, with few over-dubs, and upon being packaged and mastered by Down Peninsula Audio, is now available to the public.
