'Grandfather's Horse' captures the unique 'Rowan' sound.

Characterized by high-powered arrangements of Celtic tunes as well as original and traditional ballads, this album represents a new direction for Celtic music.

'They've put thought and care into the playing and arranging of their tunes - a band with a lot of promise' - (Dirty Linen Folk and World Music Magazine)

'Grandfather's Horse', their debut album, is a potent mixture of traditional roots and personalized reflections.

The band is musically supple with Lance Zimmerman's fiddle and Doug Harvey's whistle, citten and banjo providing a front focus [while] Dean Karres' percussion and Anne Crane's guitar glide carefully underneath.

'New Rigged Ship' and 'Earl's Chair' are fine examples of their combined instrumental powers while Anne Crane's singing excels on 'Road to Nowhere' and a suitably resigned 'Carrickfergus'.

Rowan's collective personality is easily stamped on traditional music. 'Grandfather's Horse' has a class US Celtic act emerging from the Kansas prairies.' (above review by John O'Regan)
