Daryl James was born in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1973. At the age of 9, he started playing the organ under the loving instruction of his grandmother, through whose family line he inherited his musical heritage.

At the age of 11, two of Daryl's uncles started playing guitar. Through these musical influences, he was introduced to Eddie Van Halen and the incredible "brown" sounds of the guitar god. The year was 1984 and the album of the same name became the baseline for the rest of his musical decade, a decade that was spent imitating guitar heroes like George Lynch and Steve Vai.

In 1991, as he was starting college, he heard the Indigo Girls for the first time. Ready for a musical change, he picked up his first acoustic guitar and started writing and singing his own folky songs in an attempt to understand the transitions and meaning of life.

Throughout the 90's, he spent a great deal of time in his homemade 4-track studio recording and working on collections of songs, including "An Audience of Me", "This Language", and "So Far", most of which he simply made copies of and distributed to friends and family. He also picked up a few more instruments along the way, returning to his keyed roots by taking piano lessons and expanding his stringed accompaniment by adding mandolin.

As he reached 30, and started a family, Daryl started to think more seriously about his music and songwriting and decided to turn his varied musical interests into something a little more substantial. He has spent the last few years investing more time and resources into his equipment, his technique and his musical offerings, the result of which is 2005's Balance EP.

Daryl James is now attempting to emerge as a folk-pop/alt-country singer-songwriter offering simple, but memorable songs that engage listeners on a deeper, more personal level as they travel parallel through this thing called life.
