It’s not everyday that a first generation Cuban, born and raised in Miami Fl, finesses a glass slide along the strings of her acoustic guitar with her foot stomping in time to the swampiest groove this side of the Mississippi Delta, but that is exactly how Nini Camps takes the stage to play SLIDE, the lead off track from her sophomore release, SO LONG. Don’t be mislead however, into thinking that bluesy slide work is the only thing this New York City based, independent, singer, songwriter, guitarist has to offer. Musically, she goes beyond the conventions of today’s popular music fearlessly blurring the lines of pop, country, folk and rock to create a sound that is as diverse as it is powerful. While influenced by such powerful writers as Lucinda Williams, Bruce Springsteen and Patty Griffin, it is Nini’s ability to effortlessly tap into her Cuban heritage and the likes of the late Celia Cruz, that her unique combination of old and new, Cuban and American is borne.

A self-proclaimed “Road Warrior”, Nini is showing no signs of slowing down (not that we thought she would!). As of April 2005 she has played over 40 college and club shows from NYC to Washington State. In 2004, she supported Los Lonely Boys in Texas and the Northeast, played for the Houston Comets at their Toyota Center Stadium, headlined the Houston Women’s Festival, supported Ari Hest in the Midwest, recorded and released a new EP, showcased at the National Association for Campus Activities in Reno, NV and the national conference in Minneapolis and performed over 100 shows on her own. The new EP, “Driving You Out” serves as a stepping-stone that leads to Nini’s third full-length release (slated for early 2006). “Driving You Out”, a 5 song collection, comes from the road and shows Nini at her best. The title track and “East 35th” are Southern fried swamp rockers while “I saw love ”showcases a more melodic pop laced approach to songwriting. “All you Wanted” is a standout ballad which hints at Nini’s Cuban heritage with a bilingual vocal and “Not Coming Back” closes the EP as a simmering, explosive rock track.

“Lovepie” the debut CD, and “So Long” the sophmore release, have landed tracks in independent films like Amy’s O, and television; most notably the WB hit Series “Felicity”, “The Mary Kate and Ashley Show” and MTV’s “Real World”. In addition, the Olsen’s have licensed songs for their TV show soundtrack and 2004 Movie “The Challenge”.
