"...layers percussion, bass, and guitar into a thick throbbing sound which pulsates out of your speakers like it was the throaty roar of a high performance engine..." - Ear Pollution

"...a grungy kind of electronic rock full of creativity and an element of human vulnerability. 9/10" - Outburn Magazine

Matt Walker is one of the most in-demand session drummers in Chicago. He has toured with such acts as Filter, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Garbage, appeared on several albums including Adore (The Smashing Pumpkins), Resolver (Veruca Salt), Troublizing (Ric Ocasek) and Cupcakes (Cupcakes), and worked with artists such as Billy Corgan, Sinead O'Connor and Louise Post on soundtracks for the films Ransom, Batman & Robin and The Avengers.

In 1999 Walker and long time collaborator Jim Dinou self-released the album Batterie, an impressionistic soundscape constructed of live drum, guitar, keyboards and vocal performances fueled by an electronic infrastructure. Songs from Batterie appeared in the film Blade as well as the television shows Roswell, The Guardian, and MTV Road Rules. As Walker and Dinou continued to work on new material their focus changed, as did their name. Allowing their collective intuition to lead them to new and intriguing sonic worlds where they embraced things electric and acoustic, melodic and dissonant, disciplined and spontaneous, they realized their personal vision and in 2001 released Axioms, their debut album under the moniker Impossible Recording Machine, to rave reviews.

Never one to take the easy path, Walker began work on IRM's second album, Ohm, due to be released in late summer 2003, while simultaneously compiling music for his solo project. That project is Beautiful Assassins and the album, Preamp, is an incredible blend of industrial, ambient and electronic mayhem that features the intoxicating vocals of Michelle Cross, as well as vocals from Cupcakes lead singer Preston Graves. The perfect compliment to both Batterie and Axioms, Preamp defies any "traditional" sense of genre and defines its own by finding the common thread between things uncommon. Released in January of 2003, songs from Preamp have appeared in the TNN and Fox Sports series RE:Evolution of Sports. A highly anticipated release since the track "Generator" appeared on the 2002 Positron! Records compilation, komposi001, Preamp includes the song "Hellbent," a masterful, energetic and hard-hitting reinterpretation of the Beatles "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" as well as a cover of The Police song, "Bed's Too Big Without You."
