All Genres > Electronic > Soundscapes > SERGEI KVITKO: Dracula

The sounds travel from thunders to ethereally distant violin solo to hauntingly beautiful melody of bells to overpowering orchestral waltz spinning out of control. And that is just the first track. Later we hear boys choir, Fugue reminiscent of Shostakovich, wolf singing with the band and so much more...

Sergei Kvitko was born in Russia and began studying music at the age of six. He was awarded numerous prizes as a pianist, piano teacher, and accompanist, including a prize at the All-Russia Piano Competition Open Debut.

After receiving the highest possible music education in Russia, Mr. Kvitko came to the United States to pursue a doctoral degree in piano performance at Michigan State University, which he completed in 2001. In his first year at MSU he won the two most prestigious School of Music competitions: The Honors Concerto Competition and The Catherine Herrick Cobb Scholarship.

As a soloist and a chamber musician, Mr. Kvitko has performed throughout Russia, United States and Canada. He also is a recording engineer and producer for Blue Griffin Recording.

Sergei Kvitko’s Dracula was winner of 2003-2004 Lansing State Journal’s Thespie Award, Riverwalk Theatre’s Barney Award and City Pulse’s Pulsar Award.

"A totally original, film-quality musical score," "clearly a major composition," "gorgeous and frightening"

Lansing City-Pulse, October 13, 2003

"Kvitko wove a borderline insane level of care and sophistication into every bar of his score even when you can barely hear it."

Lawrence Cosentino, Lansing City-Pulse, October 22, 2003

"terrific original music"

Ken Glickman, Lansing State Journal, October 23, 2003
