Severin 24 "[Teepee]" By: Wednesday Elektra(Space Junkies Magazine, nefariousmag ,Neo-zine "Just looking at the cover art for this album is impressive enough. I don't think Severin 24 even had to send in a press kit or other information to grab my attention - they could have just sent me their CD and nothing else, I would have been amazed just the same. The vivid colors of yellow & orange against black with crisp fonts and awesome layout design was enough to lure me in. Music wise, I wasn't sure what to expect, after reading one good review after another I had to check it out for myself. With the most part I agree with all the reviews of Severin 24 that I've read. This is definitely one of the most ear grabbing CD's I've ever heard. A few of the tracks were recorded live and even for live material the sound quality was near perfect, everything was level and clean sounding. The best description of how they sound runs parallel to electronica versus synthpop with that extra bounce that drum n bass offers. I really enjoyed this album, and I'm not a huge fan of electronic based music. I believe Severin 24 is the only exception (that I've heard so far that is!). I'll be listening to this 4 track disc called [teepee] for a long time to come. „A stomping piece of funk, electro and space rock, all melted together in a kind of comic strip art-punk alloy", heißt es im Pressetext zu dieser CD. Das klingt etwas hochtrabend, aber zeigt den Enthusiasmus und den jugendlichen Charme dieser Veröffentlichung auf. Das geplante Album wird hoffentlich den guten ersten Eindruck dieses Projektes untermauern, das die Welt mit ihren Liveauftritten im Sturm erobern will. Falk Lenn « moderne-klangkunst « » www.moderne-klangkunst.de 'Teepee' by Severin 24 is the debut single from former French punk rocker(ex Garlic Frog Diet guitarist-singer reviewed by Maximum Rock'n'Roll) turned electronic whizz kid, Thierry Holweck. His sound is influenced as much by Link Wray, Chrome and Jacques Dutronc, as Aphex Twin and Roni Size. These four tracks combine programmed beats and synths with guitar, bass and drums, creating some of the funkiest electronica ever. 'Teepee' was originally recorded as an instrumental but it was transformed into a vocal track after the joyful rediscovery of some old vinyl, where Thierry found a pitch perfect sample from soulful singing legend, Peggy Lee. "Teepee is my own version of a love song(If Frank Sinatra could hear it, in hell, he will die a second time, and..I don't care)" On "Free Chicken" Thierry is joined by sidekick Pat "le Pirate" on drums. This adds a raw intensity and allure which contributes to the cinematic feel of the track, creating, as Barry Adamson would say - a soundtrack in search of a film. Albeit coming across like a console game theme, "Call Rakini" is, however, more Daft Punk in a playful mood than C64. On the closing track, a live reworking of "Teepee", Pat's drums and Holweck's guitar add an almost organic, early Norman Cook feel. Severin 24 is currently touring in France to support this release and some dates are also planned for the UK and rest of Europe. Teepee is a stomping piece of funk, electro and space rock, all melted together in a kind of comic strip art-punk alloy. Fans of Camping Gaz and Tocotronic/ Phantom Ghost,Chicks on Speed would be well advised to take a sound detour right here!!!! Check out the artist's website: http://www.severin24.com Track List: 1.
