Born and raised in Idaho, now based out of New York, this musician has been immersed in music since early childhood. Predominantly a Vocalist and Songwriter, Lily is also a working Audio Engineer as well as being trained in Suzuki Piano, guitar and drums. In 2001 she graduated from the world-renowned Berklee College of Music with a major in Vocal Performance and Music Production and Engineering. In December 2004 Lily released her debut album entitled ONE. Written and performed entirely by Lily, ONE is a unique combination of Trip Hop Electronica and Jazz Vocal Songwriting. Produced with Bay Area Producer/Engineer Enrique Gonzalez Müller, whose credits include Dave Matthews Band, Kronos Quartet and MC Hammer, the two spent a total of three months together in summer 2004 recording ONE. The initial idea for the project was to record Lily's music much like a DJ would an old Nina Simone song: sampling the jazz vocals to remix them with electronic trip-hop beats. And while ONE achieves this goal, it quickly moves past it into a whole new genre where trip hop, jazz, rock and world-funk effortlessly fuse together. Songs like Que Tal and Besame lend themselves to hip Salsa/Samba beats, whereas Simple Way of Life, whose opening line "I hate this song/before it's begun" sounds like the lost track off a PJ Harvey record. Dark and sexy throughout, Lily's vocals slip through the barrage of stories effortlessly and without question. The result is a dynamic debut album that is quickly hailing much critical acclaim in the international music scene.
