My name is Arland Bishop. I was born during a blizzard in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1967. Growing up in an Air Force family meant we moved often to different countries in the world, including England, Spain, and Germany. In 1974, we finally landed in Austin, Texas. This is where I spent my formative years. I still consider Austin home. My only musical training came from playing alto sax in my junior high school band. I wrote my first song at the age of 13 and have been writing ever since. During this period (the early 1980's), I considered myself a punk rocker, which was convenient because that meant I didn't need any more training! In 1993, I graduated from the University of Texas receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Seeking to advance my acting career, I moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex where I still reside to this day. A friend once described my music as "jazzy new wave". This is an accurate (if not quirky) description, but there is more to my music than that. A self-taught keyboard player with a tendency to be impatience with myself, I have struggled, but sustained by my love of music I have endured. Personally I would describe the music on my debut album, "All This Machinery", as an electronic wall of sound. It is sparse yet has compelling rhythm's; simple yet has haunting melodies; and all coupled with soulful lyrics. Primarily my focus is on the craft of songwriting. I can hear crossover potential, tunes suited for all formats and styles. There is a muse that strikes me! It comes from some place in my soul. It cries out for recognition. These cries become ideas and those ideas become songs. The muse is speaking and intends to be heard. In my past there have been numerous incarnations of creativity: actor, singer, musician, and clown. Nonetheless, I have always returned to my first love, music and songwriting. I have found my passion; or rather it has found me. In late 2001, I released my debut album, "All This Machinery". The majority of this music was recorded in my home studio and one of the songs received a favorable review in the November 2002 issue of Recording Magazine. In 2003 I released "the Arland Bishop EP". A collection of 4 songs (including 2 new originals)produced in different parts of the world by different people. Current plans include creating a live show incorporating other musicians, singers, and visionaries. I would like to play locally and regionally. Perhaps someday, I will be fortunate enough to end a lengthy and successful tour in the very place my life began. It might even be snowing. Track List: 1. learning to cry 2. the safest place 3. learning to cry (life of riley version) 4. words (east-west version) Suggested CDs:Other Genres:
