The Royal Family has become a Boston area club favorite and have represtented the funk in a way seldom seen around these parts. Jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and r&b are just some of the styles covered in the band's repertoire of strong originals and old-school favorites. With soulful vocals, funky dance moves, a full horn section and a burnin' rhythm section, The Royal Family recalls the heyday of classic soul conglomerates such as Earth, Wind & Fire or Sly & The Family Stone.

There is a sense of brotherhood and community among the members of the group, and often times guest performers are invited in to share their talents. Members of groups such as Michigan Blacksnake, Hazie Maze, Mother's Favorite Child, The Freelance Bishops, and Soulive have often been seen sharing the stage with The Fam. Even legendary bassist Les Claypool (formerly of Primus) couldn't resist jumping in and throwing down some funk one evening at a Boston venue.

In the summer of 2002, The Royal family released the popular single, "It Must Have Been the Music," which has already been well received by clubs and radio audiences in the US and the UK, and features the vocal talents of Nephtaliem McCrary.

"With a funky, infectious urban dance beat... The Royal Family ignites the dance floor with their smooth grooves and hot-blooded vocal delivery. This is a band on the rise and not to be missed. Dynamite!"

- Douglas Sloan, Metronome Magazine February 2002
