In early 2003 Joel Simmons, a musician and producer, met up with Brandon Willett, a DJ and graphic designer in a makeshift studio built inside a Hotel room in the mountains of North Carolina. They worshipped through the nights experimenting in both sound and rhythm. Willett brought to the table his years of experience spinning deep house behind the decks in some of North Carolina’s most prominent clubs, while Joel tracked, chopped, and mixed the sessions drawing on his background in live music and improvisation. What became of those early sessions was their first collaborative effort “The City Has Wings Tonight We Fly.” The pair served up a well-balanced mix of deep grooving house and progressive melody, From the intro track “Dust” that leaves one contemplating the relationship of Man and the Divine, to the ascending title track this release is a journey into something more than the ordinary. The two have gone on to make the shift into live settings, taking the sounds of Arcanum from Kansas City to London, England.
