Since the late 80's Stephen Paul Dix has played in various alternative/pop bands (Martian Scoundrels, The Ethereals and most recently, Logan 05). Throughout that time he kept an electronic music project on the back burner. Inspired initially by the minimalist works of Brian Eno and Harold Budd, as well as, the early experimental recordings of Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, he embarked on his journey with a vintage Roland Synth, an Alesis Quadraverb and a Fostex four-track recorder. As his studio grew and electronica became slightly more mainstream, he christened the project Monkfish and recorded New Age Beverage.

New Age Beverage is broader in scope than previous recordings. The vocal samples give it a lightness and sense of humor missing from previous works. Title track harkens back to the minimalism of the early days but the rest of the CD explores different sub genres of electronica. Lullaby is an ironic new age song. The Drunken Monk is inspired by Indian music. My Name Is Joe is a dance track about an alcoholic. Lost in the Woods is a perfect chill out track. Collectively it works well as a backdrop to an after hours party. It is ideal listening for those with eclectic taste.
