Once there were only two jazz artists - Chet Baker and Sarah Vaughn - who sang ballads so nakedly, so vulnerably, that they seemed to know the secrets of your heart. Now there is a third. Listening to Tracy Todd is like nothing else on the jazz scene today. Amidst all the riffs and stylistic flourishes, she is unique in her crystal clarity of voice, her ability to reveal every nuance in a lyric and, most of all the raw courage she has to just sing the song. Todd has proven herself the consummate storyteller from the day she first sang "Silent Night" as a little girl in her kindergarten class. Great players as diverse as drummer Peter Erskine, bassist John Patitucci, pianist Alan Pasqua, saxophonist Brandon Fields and trumpeter Steve Hufstetter have eagerly accompanied her. Dan Karcher of New York's WBGO 88.3 FM, America's leading jazz station, writes of Todd's debut CD: "exceptional"...from the recording's start, one's attention is arrested...there is an immediate presence from within the ballad. I naturally seek out and find myself attracted to a few particular songs whereas, on this one, all eight commanded my attention". Greeted by rave reviews in Music Connection, Todd has captured the L. A. jazz scene with her performances at Catalina Bar & Grill, The Westin LAX and The Jazz Bakery. Singing to packed houses with David Benoit in his tribute to Charlie Brown and The Peanuts, she animated the Charles Schulz homage with her elegance and playfulness. Now, with her voice heard on jazz radio stations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, she is poised to capture the world. Chet and Sarah may be gone but jazz fans can rejoice. Somewhere tonight Tracy Todd is singing and she knows the secrets of your heart.
