About the artist Currently in Philadelphia, PA Peter Burton, at age 27, has been writing, recording, and performing music for 18 years. Primarily, he plays the piano and drums, but has also started playing the guitar, citing that its "mobility" is a nice change. Peter prides himself on his work ethic when it comes to practicing music. He took piano lessons for two years, but soon found himself falling in love with improvisation. He performed with two to three bands a year for most of his high school and college years, traveling extensively throughout New England and beyond. While Peter collaborated and composed with many musicians, he secretly was writing his own music. He recorded two full albums of material, but felt they were not professional enough to be released. The first album, Dimensional Avalanche, featured Peter on all the instruments, with catchy lines and dark, quiet songs that all revolved around a central story line of one man. Concept albums have been intriguing to Peter, so he thought it was fitting to make his "debut" a concept, but it never was available to the public. This album was all rock 'n roll. The second album, Mesmerology, was something completely different from anything Peter had done before. While interested in melody and lyrics, Peter also is fascinated with beats, rhythms, and dark ambience that take the listener into a new world. It is 6 tracks, but it is one continuous piece of music that travels from beats to droning synthesizers with layers of voices intermingled. His third album, if it is to be, explores more personal areas of Peter's life. Mostly piano, strings, organ, and vocals, the songs are emotionally driven with longing and pain being central themes. Track 1 deals with finding demons in your past that suddenly occur to you on a cool fall day. Track 2 deals with the desire to overcome boundaries between you and someone you love. Track 3 is a playful catchy pop song about, what else? heartache. In his writing process, Peter often visualizes scenes and then adds music to those scenes. The album flows through sad and mournful lyrics but also lyrics of inspiration and letting go of the fear and anger you may have. The last song is about a few different scenes, but all dealing with people about to die. Peter is not a morbid individual by any means, but often wonders what those last thoughts are before someone passes away, such as a soldier in a field or a woman just hit by a car. Some of the lyrics are what people might be thinking as they feel themselves slipping away. He hopes to make his next album an expansion of his ideas from death to rebirth to examining our way of life. Peter was dealing with budgetary constraints that made it necessary to complete everything (all tracks, vocals, mixing, and mastering) in just five days. Peter is very happy with his recent creation, but, being a perfectionist, Peter knows he can produce a new version with help. He can make these songs more radio friendly and make them more professional, while retaining an originality that makes Peter stand apart from others. Peter listens to all kinds of music from Coldplay to Tool , James Taylor to Slipknot. He loves classical, jazz, blues, hip hop, metal, blue grass and reggae. His ultimate dream is to go on tour, see the world, making music but knows this is what thousands of musicians want. What sets Peter apart is his technical skill, his ear, his willingness to experiment, and ability to collaborate with other artists and producers. He is also "easy on the eyes", or so he has been told. Gaining popularity, Peter's debut is being heard throughout Philadelphia and beyond. Sales have been promising and he currently putting together his first tour to promote the album. Local newspapers have rave that he is a "gifted vocalist" and a "natural talent with a bright future". While he knows he is at the beginning, Peter enjoys playing and effecting people so much, that this is a life long commitment for him. This album is a first step for Peter in what he hopes will be a long journey. He works hard, practices everyday, writes constantly, run marathons, in preparation for what he hopes in a music career. He feels he's marketable to many audiences and would ultimately like to put together a band. So, please, give him a chance!
