Danny Weizmann is a song and dance man, a red hot performer, a beautiful crooner, and a true original. His self-titled album, due this spring, is a romantic, stunning adventure that is at turns swinging, sentimental, humorous, and rocking. The son of a Moroccan sailor and a Coney Island beatnik, Danny was born in Ashkelon, Israel during the Six Day War in the Summer of Love. At the tender age of one he moved to Hollywood, California, and by six he had begun his stage career tapping with Al Gilbert Studios and studying performance at Lee Strasberg Theater Academy. In his early 20s, Danny fronted the 12-piece hip hop outfit Double D Nose, which toured the states and opened for such luminaries as Beck, De La Soul, Jane's Addiction, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fishbone, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and Technotronic. His two solo spoken word/music records on the legendary SST label received Pick of the Month from CMJ and airplay from Paris to Vegas. In '97, Danny returned to Manhattan to study music theory with 93-year-old Helen Hobbes Jordan, former president of Julliard and mentor to Tony Bennet, Bette Midler, Paul Simon, Melissa Manchester, David Sanborn and many others. Under Helen's tutelage, he began the songwriting that led to this dazzling album. Produced by Christian Nakata, of Epitaph recording artists Ruth Ruth, Danny Weizmann features performances by some great musicians including Dan Shulman (Garbage), Abby Travis (Beck, Elastica), Jenni Muldaur (Angry Elves), and premiere Theramin virtuoso Pamelia Kurstin. It also features a blazing Latin jazz vibraphone solo by Danny's doorman, Tito Martinez. From the finger-snapping jazz of THE KING OF LOVE, the throbbing rollerdisco of DISCO SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK, and the rollicking samba of EL MOROCCO, Danny Weizmann combines vaudeville vibes with an alternative sensibility that is totally infectious. It's Fred Astaire meets Chic meets Bobby Darrin meets the Dust Brothers meets Jobim meets Bob Marley and it is so musical! Check out the hip cover of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN---complete with original tap solo! Danny and his band will begin playing live throughout New York City this summer in support of the record.
