The new CD that we have created is called El Paso after the anchor song that we recorded and released as a single for radio play at the request of several friends who wanted to know if I would sing any of their favorite old western or CW songs. The single first made popular by the writer, composer and great singer Marty Robbins in the late 1950s has received so much attention nationwide since we released it that we decided to release an entire album of Western songs and ballads. The single reached the top (#1) of the New Music Weekly new artist chart In addition to the song El Paso, included among the well known titles are "They Call the Wind Miriah", "Phoenix", "King of the Road", "Ghost Riders in the Sky", "My Woman My Woman My Wife", "Devil Woman", "Tom Dooley", and "Rawhide". There are also several new or never recorded songs on the album including the last song published by Harlan Howard before his death entitled "A Day in the Life of a Little Scrap Piece of Paper". Also on the album is a new song by Kim Williams and Clay Walker, "Roselita", that is in many ways reminiscent of the great Kingston Trio song Tom Dooley. Finally there is an old West Virginia children's song that we think dates back to the mid 1800s that I learned as a child over 40 years ago called "Eddy ......Brown", a song about the plight of a boy with a very long name. This CD is produced by Grammy nominated Eric Paul who produced many projects for Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylen Jennings among others. The musicians all of whom hang their hats in Austin include Riley Osborn on piano and organ, Dony Wynn on percussion, Chris Maresh on bass, Larry Chaney on guitar, Rich Brotherton on guitar, Lloyd Maynes on steel and dibro, Steve Maynard and Leeann Atherton on background vocals, Jason Roberts on fiddle and a few drop-ins and drop-outs from the local Austin scene.
