The leader of the band, Scott Brannon, is the group's lead singer and guitar player. Scott grew up listening to the traditional style of Charlie Moore, Reno & Smiley, and Bill Harrell, and began singing their music from the time he could talk. He began playing the festival circuit at the age of 16 as a member of Pudge Warfield's band, "The Potomac Highland Grass". Scott was one of Frank Necessary's "Stone Mountain Boys" in the 1980s, and he has performed with such well-known bluegrass stars as Bill Harrell, Buck Ryan, and James King. Although Scott has been singing for more than 20 years, his first recording was not done until 1996, when he recorded two train songs for Ray Davis's Wango Records--which songs were placed on a 2-CD set entitled "Freight Train Special." Since then, Ray Davis (a well- known deejay on WAMU Radio, 88.5 FM) has invited Scott to do several other recording sessions--some of the songs recorded were duets with David Davis (of the "Warrior River Boys"), and another session consisted of duets with the legendary Paul Williams. In January 1997, Scott and his band recorded his first full CD for Wango Records, entitled "Faded Love and Winter Roses." In March of 2000, Scott released his second CD, "If I Had My Life to Live Over". He recorded and produced the CD on his own Arden label. Mountain Lady is the latest release by The Scott Brannon Band. Just released in February of 2002, the project includes songs featuring all the band members. Tracey Rohrbaugh sings lead on "West Virginia My Home" as well as "Emotions." Jerry McCoury sings lead on "Linda Lou," and he also sings tenor with me on "The Bluebirds Are Singing." Jack Leiderman, Richard Underwood and Tracey Rohrbaugh are featured on an instrumental entitled "Good-bye Liza Jane." Scott sings lead on some bluegrass standards included on the CD as well as some new songs like "This Year's Fallen Star" and "You're Not Mine To Love." Neither song has been recorded before. Singing harmony and playing mandolin for the group is Tracey Dent Rohrbaugh. Tracey started playing and singing at the age of 13 with a family band known as "Short Grass"-aptly named because she and her brother Lee were so short. When she went away to college, Tracey began playing with a group from Morgantown, West Virginia called "Appalachian Tradition." That band lasted about five years, when it evolved into a new group, "Chestnut Ridge." As a member of "Chestnut Ridge", Tracey played numerous shows with West Virginia's senior United States Senator, the Honorable Robert C. Byrd. The band played several tributes to Senator Byrd as well, including one where President Clinton was in attendance. In October 1995, "Chestnut Ridge" was chosen to represent the State of West Virginia at the Kennedy Center during State Days. Since that time, Tracey has made several appearances with well-known musicians, including one with Mac Wiseman. Tracey is now a full- time member of "The Scott Brannon Band" and has been so since its inception in August 1996. Playing the 5 string banjo and singing harmony vocals with the band is Richard Underwood. Richard began his career playing banjo with the "Johnson Mountain Boys". In more recent times, he has worked with Bob Paisley's Southern Grass. Richard's hard driving banjo playing is an outstanding asset to the Scott Brannon Band. Playing fiddle for the group is Jack Leiderman. Jack has worked with many top bluegrass bands. Most recently, he worked with Bob Paisley's Southern Grass. He was with them for the past 12 years. He also helped record Scott Brannon's debut C.D. "Faded Love and Winter Roses". Renowned bluegrass entertainer Jerry McCoury adds a very distinctive sound to the band. His great bluegrass voice and bass playing is respected throughout the bluegrass industry. Jerry has worked with legends such as Don Reno, Red Smiley, Bill Harrell and Del McCoury. Track List: 1.
