In the tradition and spirit of the classic country duets of the 1930's 40's and 50's, The Hunger Mountain Boys are a high-energy pair with an authentic early American country sound. In addition to recording and performing a variety of old classics and rarities ranging from string band style barnburners, to weepy emotional death ballads, the boys' write much of their own material, adding their own fresh approach to a classic American music.

Highlights:
-Winners of the 2003 Mountain Stage national song-writing and performing contest
-2nd place in the 2004 Thomas Point Bluegrass band contest
-Portions of their first album, Fashioned In The Old Way, are featured as accompanying music for Roots of Bluegrass, an extra-multi media presentation included on the Jimmy Martin documentary King of Bluegrass DVD, 2003.

Appearances: Festivals, clubs, and concert halls throughout the east coast. The Hunger Mountain Boys have shared the stage with Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys, The Del McCoury Band, Tim O'brien, Jim Lauderdale, Nickel Creek, Charlie Waller, Rhonda Vincent, Darrell Scott, Kathy Mattea, Taj Mahal, and many others.

CD Reviews of FASHIONED IN THE OLD WAY:
"The Hunger Mountain Boys could have easily been performing sixty years ago instead of at the beginning of the twenty-first century....Fashioned in the Old Way features plenty of the old-style duo singing, guaranteed to raise goosebumps. Expect to hear much more from the Hunger Mountain Boys."
Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine, March 2004

"The Hunger Mountain Boys recapture evenings spent sitting on the floor in front of the old Philco listening to country music that's just about as elemental as it gets. Except for the fact that there's no static, these could easily be taken for transcriptions from 1935 or so."
Sing Out! Magazine, Summer 2004

Reviews of The Hunger Mountain Boys record, Fashioned In The Old Way and some of their recent performances:

"Yeah! This is the real thing, nothing but straight-ahead heartfelt singing punctuated by exquisite picking. I enjoyed every "old fashioned" moment...what a cool record!"

"Although new to our area and virtually unknown to our audience, the response made it clear that they won't soon be forgotten. Their high energy and sincere approach to the brother-style duet harmony singing helps to set them aside from other performers at bluegrass festivals. The crowd loved them. If you haven't seen them be sure to catch their next show!!!"

"The Hunger Mountain Boys are the genuine article! Their new CD Fashioned in the Old Way is a fantastic record and a well-received addition to our play list."

"The Hunger Mountain Boys, a terrific duo...shared a single, old-style microphone, and they harmonized in the old-country brother style...their fleet playing was matched by their plaintive, microtonal singing."

“They're the next big duo...It was a mighty showing by The HMB at The Parkside, they thrilled the locals with a well-paced polished show that was humorous and musically impressive. A lot of the humor was spontaneous, playing off the crowd or whatever was going on at the moment, tuning or finagling the guitar strap, they're very good entertainers. And they're very likeable cats on and off stage.”
