Three years ago Kathy Ashworth left everything she had ever known behind to move to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue her dream of music. An Orange County California native, Kathy never strayed far from home. Even college was a short jump to the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado for an art history degree and then back to Los Angeles, California. Kathy landed a first grade teaching job where she combined her love of the creative arts, and the art of music in particular, into her classroom. She began an after-school choir program and directed the school's holiday performances. As much as she loved teaching and was even awarded Teacher of the Year, it was not enough to satisfy the dream Kathy had for her own music.. In her heart, Kathy wanted to write songs and perform, and that's just what she began doing. While living and teaching in California, Kathy pursued music in her spare time, writing songs as time allowed and performing at local venues in the evenings. But part time was not enough to answer her call to songwriting. Kathy has recently completed her debut self-titled album, Kathy Ashworth. The album is quickly receiving attention from publishing companies and other songwriters who have asked Kathy's permission to perform her song, "More Fun to be a Girl." Other songs also being considered by industry executives include Kathy's "If I Had a Cold, Cold Heart" and "Girl in the Mirror." Her major influences include Shania Twian, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, the Go-Go's, and the Beach Boys. Kathy has been drawn to harmonies and songs that incorporate a positive message. She is inspired by all genres of music and cites Martina McBride as a moving performer. In her spare time, Kathy enjoys listening to performers at Nashville's esteemed Blue Bird Café where Kathy has learned a lot about her own songwriting. Realizing that she has always had the ideas and inspiration to write songs, the Blue Bird performances she has witnessed encouraged her to craft and execute her songs in a more conversational manner. Kathy's performances in Nashville have included The Blue Bird Café, Crossroads and The Broken Spoke where Kathy also hosted a songwriter's showcase. Now, Kathy is excited about furthering her career by concentrating on her debut album, Kathy Ashworth, and performing around Nashville more. Kathy is filled with enthusiasm when thinking about her future. Not only is Kathy Ashworth a new name with a new album, she is also a new mom. Don't let motherhood make you think that a baby is going to slow her down. Being a mother has only made Kathy more motivated. She wants to be a mother that her daughter will one day look up to and this drives her harder than anything else in the world. Don't think for an instance that this California transplant is going anywhere. Kathy Ashworth is here to stay and she is ready to take Nashville by storm song by song.
