Hoot Gibson grew up in Columbus, Indiana.

To further his music career he moved from Indiana to Monterey, California in 1986 then in 1988 moved to Nashville, Tennessee.

He started playing at the famous Broken Spoke in 1991 with artists like Darryl Singletary until 1994 when he started playing with The "Jukebox Junkie" himself, Ken Mellons.
