Rockabilly and country with an edge! Hobson's music is unique because every style that he plays has a strong Texas edge included in it, whether it's country, the blues, or southern rock. You'll hear those expected tender love songs, but not many of them. Instead, you'll get a pleasantly refreshing variety of songs ranging from the upbeat "Homemade Love and Louisiana Cookin'" to every touring artist's lament, "Honkytonk Highway." Look out for the funny stuff. Some of it is tongue-in-cheek, but you'll be laughing yourself into becoming the next Hobson Smith fan. Smith is an obvious songwriting talent. His songs are properly structured, have good hooks, good melodies, and aren't marathons of music. He certainly knows how to write a commercially viable song. His subject matter is positive, and his focus is always on entertaining you while telling you a story. His delivery is comfortable and soothing. Over the course of listening to an entire CD, you will find yourself entertained, amused, satisfied, smiling, and wanting more. Recently, I attended a performance of this veteran Texas artist, and I was trying to pin down a description for his voice. Diverse, and yet distinct, true and inviting. My wife mentioned that sometimes it was almost "Elvis-like" and at other times it was almost "Willie-like." So we came up with the term "Wilvis."
