Though music has always been a part of her life, it wasn't until a few years ago that Rebecca Vine began to tap into her musical roots on a more serious level. Rebecca was born on February 24, 1983 in Anchorage, Alaska, to a musically inclined family, and cultivated an appreciation for music at a young age. "My parents always tell me how I would sing before I ever learned to talk. I thought it was a cute story, but never took it as any kind of indication of my calling or anything," she says. Rebecca's family moved to Santa Cruz, California in 1985, where she grew up by the beach, gaining interest in everything from Marine Biology to Theater. Throughout the many changes of direction, music was always in the background; singing in the choir at church, taking piano and voice lessons, watching her dad's Rock 'n Roll band rehearsals. Though she didn't know it at the time, these everyday activities would eventually take on a whole new meaning. At the age of 16, she was picking up guitars around the house and teaching herself to play. "I would lock myself in my room for hours. Every now and then I'd go to my dad with a question about a chord or strumming pattern, and then disappear for another few hours," she says. It may have taken Rebecca's passion for music some time to surface, but it has quickly developed ever since. "I would love to say that this was my lifelong dream and I've never wanted to do anything else," Rebecca says, "but to be honest, it seems I wanted to do everything but music up until a few years ago." She, and two close friends, joined forces in 2000, and formed an acoustic band, "Spero." "We were always singing three-part harmony and jamming together. Pretty soon we were playing locally and recording demos of our originals." It was then that music took center stage in Rebecca's life, and continued to be the focus even after the breakup of Spero in 2002. Shortly after the breakup, Rebecca moved to Texas and began recording her solo album, "Waiting In The Wings." It was there that the hard work began, and the timeline for completion seemed like an eternity. The entire process has taken quite a while, but at long last, it is complete and ready for its debut. Rebecca Vine carries on a very rich family legacy of music. At her recent CD release party in Texas, she played to an audience from the same stage that her great grandparents once performed on. Her musical influences, many and varied, include The Beatles, James Taylor, Shawn Colvin and Allison Krauss. Although her voice is unique and stands alone, some have said she sounds like a blend of Norah Jones and Sarah McLachlan. Rebecca currently makes her home in Nashville where she enjoys the music scene and plays at various singer/songwriter showcases. She plans to be touring in the not too distant future.
