The Virginia Tech football program has captured the attention and the hearts of legions of fans and alumni across the country. From the picturesque town of Blacksburg, nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the Tech football team, known affectionately as the "Hokies", has risen to national prominence, with the promise of the best being yet to come. Inspired by the gallant efforts of the Tech team and coaches, Blacksburg native and musician Randy Alcorn has recorded four fun-filled and poignant songs commemorating the thrill-a-minute rollercoaster ride of a team destined for greatness. The lyrics are written from the heart of a loyal fan, set to familiar tunes, and chart the Hokies' rise from the despair of heartbreaking games in the early nineties to their recent season contending for the national championship. The title song, "Championship Pie" (to the tune of "American Pie") is an anthem testifying to the power of dreams, and a chronicle of the perserverance required to make them a reality. The notable efforts of a Heisman-candidate quarterback and an All-American kicker are hearalded in "Tech Legend", documenting a make-or-break game with the West Virginia Mountaineers that had everyone on pins and needles. The irreverent and bluesy "Third Rate Tailgate" (to the tune of "Third Rate Romance") tells the story of many a desparate football fan, and captures the spirit and fun of college football as it is enjoyed nationwide. "Uneasy Hokie" (to the tune of "Uneasy Rider") tells the hilarious story of a fan's road trip to destiny to see the National Championship game in New Orleans.
