This CD was crafted from summer '02 through summer '03 as an Artist's Project Grant from the Ohio Arts Council. The songs are more mature, sadder, more women wise and worldly than Sarah's first CD. The grant was awarded partly on the strength of Sarah's skill at sharing women's experience of life in Appalachia. The underlying feeling still harkens back strongly to traditional country music, murder ballad, cowboy song, dance tunes, Patsy Cline like laments. Sarah is a two-time Kerrville New Folk Finalist working teaching preschool and raising kids in Athens, Ohio. Her band includes stand-up bass, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals. Her singing partner, Megan Cameron served as an inspiration in the crafting of the CDs title tune, a duet for two women entitled Two Minds. The music is finely tuned, lyrics draw you in and take you with Sarah to the places she's been and the places she dreams of going. Come on in and experience them with her. The Athens News had this to say: It's got storytelling songs, earthy philosophic ruminations, social commentary, love laments, a murder ballad, and another of Guthrie's patented swagger tunes. On "Songs From the Dam Farm" she cheerfully informed the rest of us that "I'm all right, and you're all wrong." This time around she wonders why, since there's not a man on earth who could possibly match her own bad self for desirablity, she should look any further for a mate. "Haunted Eyes," the aforementioned murder ballad, is among the best things here, the harrowing tale of a woman who "killed the one that I loved best."
