Ginny Mitchell, Singer/Songwriter - Artist / Producer "Ginny has a style all her own as light as a feather or as charged as dynamite." Â Â Â - Larry Delaney [Editor of Country Music News] Larry was one of the first to recognize Ginny's talent when she started her music career in Canada. Her style and reputation grew as she traveled between her two homes in the wilds of Western Canada and Northern California. Ginny delivers a charisma emanating straight from the heart. Embraced by her fellow Canadians, the *CCMA dubbed her Best New Artist. Ginny took Canada by storm, placing five hits into Canada's top 40 shortly after starting her recording career, which brought her talent to the attention of an entire nation. She recorded in Nashville with her friend and producer, Mark Schatz. The "Wild Rose" cd is a a reflection of Ginny's influences- Gordon Lightfoot, Merle Haggard and Claire Lynch.Mark Schatz called some of his friends in on the sessions : Bela Fleck, Wyatt Rice, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, John Jorgenson and Mark O'Connor. This was when nobody knew their names and they had just arrived in town. The people in Ginny's hometown of Santa Cruz were well aware of their music though, because Ginny and her friends had a daily diet of it on KFAT radio. Ginny's early life was shaped by great loss, losing her parents at the age of fourteen. She took her guitar everywhere, the last gift her parents gave her. She was kicked out of class when she refused to leave it at home, and asked to leave her Girl Scout troup when she wouldn't put the instrument away.It was her friend and solace. Ginny found new life in the creative energy of Santa Cruz, California a seaside haven for artists and musicians. As a child the family had spent summers in Canada due to her father's timber business. She fell in love with the simplicity and beauty of the people and landscape. Ginny's brother and sister live there and she continues to tour between the two climes. She has performed in coffeehouses, bars, clubs, honkytonks, fairs, festivals...radio and National TV. Every venue from nameless watering holes to legendary names like the Bluebird cafe, Calgary Stampede and Strawberry Music Festival. In Santa Cruz Ginny met and formed a friendship with Lacy J. Dalton. When Lacy and her husband moved the Virginia City, Nevada they became involved in helping to save a piece of vanishing west...the Comstock wild horses. Lacy formed the Let 'em Run foundation. Since that time Ginny has been helping to promote their cause by raising public awareness of the plight of the women struggling to save the Wild Horses of Storey County, Nevada. Ginny and her husband, Marty Collins are producing broadcast programming for PBS Television, and other broadcast, cable, DVD, CD and worldwide Web markets. This gives the PBS audience and others an opportunity to share in the vision of building a permanent wildlife Sanctuary for the Comstock Wild Horses. You can hear Ginny's newest efforts on "Girls from Santa Cruz", a cd from the live concert with Lacy J. Dalton and Mary McCaslin. "Most of the time , it's too easy to resort to pat catch phrases. But in the case of Ginny Mitchell,"singing sweetheart" somehow seems appropriate. Whether doing her own tunes-genuine, country-hued originals as crisp and crafty as anything coming out of Nashvillle--or covering a tried-and-true standard, Mitchell exudes a warm friendliness and fresh enthusiasm of a youthful romance. Despite the fleeting feeling such maudlin sentiments might suggest, Mitchell's music has true staying power, making her one of the area's best-loved performers." .....GOOD TIMES, Santa Cruz, Ca "I heard her sing and was very much impressed with her vocal strenght, expressive qaulity and technical finesse" ...Mark Schatz, bassist, producer "I am knocked out by Ginny's voice and her most deserving self" ...Lacy J.
