Singer-songwriter Don Campbell released a brand new CD on Tuesday, November 19, a collection of 14 Christmas classics and 4 original holiday songs. Campbell produced and arranged the album featuring signature fiddle and guitar sounds of the Don Campbell Band and added piano and cello instrumentation on the project, recorded in Portland, Maine over the summer and early fall.

The making of “A Don Campbell Christmas” was motivated by fans and by a tradition. For over 10 years, Campbell has played music at the local Cerebral Palsy Center's annual Christmas party. “When my friend, Sue Brewer, a teacher at the CP Center, first approached me in 1990 about playing some Christmas music for this gathering, I had no idea what was in store or that this experience would become one of the biggest gifts I've ever been given. It's a joy to be a part of their annual celebration, and after so many years, it seemed like it was about time to record a Christmas music project!” said Campbell. Additionally, fans of Campbell's and the Don Campbell Band had been suggesting the same. In the fall of 2001, the Band surveyed fans to learn what their favorite Christmas classics were and what they'd like to hear on the CD. They received several hundred votes for a total of nearly 100 different Christmas song suggestions. The two biggest vote getters, I'll Be Home for Christmas, and the Irving Berlin classic, White Christmas are just two of the 14 classics on the CD.

The Don Campbell Band performs nationally in clubs, theaters, universities, fairs and festivals, casinos and at country headlining shows and have opened for Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt, Ricky Skaggs and many other country, bluegrass and folk greats. Don Campbell has released six CDs, including two with his current band, “The Mashed Potato Swing” and “I Own the Road”. Fueled by the popularity of their songs and live shows, the Don Campbell Band entered 8 battles of the bands in 1999 and won all 8, including the Country Showdown at the Grand Ole Opry. As the winner of the Showdown, the band was awarded $50,000 and the title "Best New Act in Country Music". Just one month before, they took the highest honors in the national Jim Beam Country Band Talent Search at the Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville (November, 1999). Don Campbell is the 2001 Just Plain Folks music organization's Male Artist of the Year and has recently been nominated for two more awards in the 2002 Just Plain Folks Music Awards. In August of 2002, the Visiting Nurse Associations of America officially adopted one of Campbell's original songs, “A Friend Right Here” as their national theme song. In September of 2002, the Band competed in the New England Country Showdown Battle of the Bands at the Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington MA and was voted grand prize winner from the 12 performing acts.

The Don Campbell Band would like to wish everyone a VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY & TERRIFIC HOLIDAY SEASON! Hope our music will add some joy to your special times!
