Here you go,Rudy Grant Fans! Finally!! A CD from one of Denver, Colorado`s ICONS of country music. I think that Rudy`s been around here almost as long as Lee Sims or Leo Everett. I really haven`t kept track of the years, (I stopped counting a long time ago)
Now this album is "Western" to me. It has a predominant steel guitar played by Clip Cookson, who also co-produced this CD. By the way, the other producer is a well-known country music artist, Karen Osburn. She got her licks in-playing bass guitar, drums and back-up vocals. Susie Lewis (another nationally known artist) laid down some outstanding fiddle parts on this album.
I remember back in the `60`s, when I used to go with my Dad on the road to repair electronic organs. We were
in Valetine, Nebraska when the van decided to quit on us and we had to stay in the downtown hotel while we waited for the parts to be delivered to the repair shop. I can picture that country hotel in my mind like it was yesterday. The wooden bench and chairs, one black and white television, and NO vending machines in the lobby. I bet you have a place like that in your mind. WELL, this album will take you back to that very place again and again. It is cassic country and western through and through. In this day of hype and distortion, it`s very rare for something that`s designed to be country and not designed to be commercial. This album is just THAT: ITs COUNTRY, its the GOOD STUFF!!
There`s a waltz (that`s played like a waltz)and He sings a cha-cha. The dancers will delight in this one. The back-up vocalc are right-on the money, and Rudy`s singing is great.
Listen to the different timbres that he achieves on different songs. It`s one of the things that Rudy has always done so well. I remember back when Claude King sat down and demonstrated to a young picker how a good country singer changes from soft to loud, thin to thick, and nasal to throaty, all within one line of a song!! Rudy is great at doing this, and it`s one of the lost arts of singing, especially in the country field.
If you`re into the Sons of the Pioneers and bands that had that great western flavor, this album will please you as well.
I almost forgot to mention, Rudy co-wrote: "The Two Step Is Calling" with LINDA A. HERMES who lives down in Texas. I Don`t know how many of the songs that were written specifically for this album-They are all great.
Great job Rudy and all those involved in this project.KEEP`EM COMING!!
