Wei Xiao Dong began studying Erhu with her father at the age of 5. She was accepted to the Central Conservatory of Music in 1980, studying under Professors Zhang Shao,Feng Zihao and Zhang Yuming. She has won numerous awards and competitions and has performed throughout China (while working as a member of the China Motion Picture Orchestra), Japan and the USA.
Her CD, "Erhu Solo by Wei Xiao Dong",contains classic Chinese songs with accompaniment by the Central National Orchestra of China. Including Yaun Ke playing yang qin and Yuan Ding on piano. The music was conducted by Liu Ju.
Recently relocating to the USA, Xiao Dong Wei can be found performing in the throughout the country at various festivals and concerts with many different artists. Currently performing in the Detroit, Mich. area with a trio called "WEI", consisting of a mandolinst, acoustic guitarist and the Erhu, that combines traditional Chinese music with American Bluegrass. "WEI" has recently been recording in the studio for an upcoming cd. Wei is also an accomplished Guzheng player, and is planning on releasing a Guzheng cd also in 2006.
