This CD contains 3 of the 6 orchestral works by Tsao Chieh, Singapore's very own home-grown composer! The main work is Singapore, Symphonic Suite for large orchestra. Tsao Chieh described Singapore, Symphonic Suite for large Orchestra as "eclectic in that it draws upon everything from romantic symphony to aleatoric techniques". The Suite, traces Singapore's history from the time it was known as "Temasek" until the birth of the Singapore Republic. It not only gives the listener a fresh view of Singapore's history but also allows the listener to enjoy the classical style of Tsao! Track 6 has the folk songs of Singapore done in an orchestral medley. Track 1 is the official Singapore Artillery March 1988, which was composed to celebrate the Artillery's 100th Anniversary. It is bold and forceful, definitely appealing to those who like music with a strong character. Tracks 7 & 8 are two little pieces for orchestra. Idyll (track 7) is a lyrical and charming piece. Dance (track 8) is a light and cheerful. All these pieces are played by the renown Singapore Symphony Orchestra, under the dynamic leadership of conductor Lan Shui. This is an opportunity to listen to Tsao's unique style of composing and highly recommended for any serious music CD collector. Check out the artist's website: http://www.tsaochieh.com Track List: 1.
